Well what can be said that hasnt already been said about Tuesday nights performance - I'll try to keep it brief and simple;- I found the whole event truly amazing, bizarre, exceptional, fab, fantastic, inconceivable, incredible, marvelous, outstanding, phenomenal, remarkable, special, stupendous, terrific, unimaginable, unprecedented, and wonderful.
Ben Kinglsey, Bernard Manning, Caroline Aherne, Christopher Eccleston, Joanne Whalley, Johnny Briggs, Max Beesley, Peter Kay, Steve Coogan, Tracey Shaw, Finley Quaye, Ian Brown, Liam Gallagher, Noel Gallagher, The Happy Mondays, M People, Mick Hucknall, Tess Daly, Matthew Kelly, Darren Campbell, Mike Atherton, John Virgo, Eddie Large, Mavis Riley, Fred Elliott (RIP), Norris Who Works in The Cabin with Rita, Gail Platt, Ken Barlow ......... and not forgetting Alex Ferguson - your Manchester boys took one hell of a beating by Glasgow Celtic. We let you play about with the ball at times, but Naka showed his magic with the deadball freekick and Boruc with his agility and penalty saving skill to put us through to the next stage and into the last 16 of UEFA Champions League - yes hard to believe and sounds that good I'll mention it again - UEFA Champions League last 16!!! This all done with a game to spare. I'll not go through the game again as many papers / websites have already done so (and also as I have a few memory blanks) but give you my opinion of the performances of our Bhoys:- BORUC - 10 out of 10 - penalty save and stop from Saha when all around expected offside to be given worth his 10. TELFER - 9 (yes that is 9) - best Celtic player in first half and handled himself really well throughout the game despite facing Giggs and the rest of United's star men. MCMANUS - 8 - assured throughout. BALDE - 7 - dodgy first half but won every high ball in 2nd half. NAYLOR - 9 - great tackling and will to win displayed throughout. NAKAMURA - 8 - freekick was sublime - has that touch of class needed on this stage. Sooooo Japaneeeeesssseeeeyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!! SNO - 5 - all at sea in first half and part of reason we let United dictate play for first stage of the game. LENNON - 8 - composed throughout and lead team well. GRAVESEN - 8 - tough first 45 out on right wing, but shifted inside and settled greatly. Constantlt harried Uniteds midfield and covered alot of ground. ZURAWSKI - 6 - didnt see enough of ball in first half and found it tough going. VENNEGOOR of HESSELINK - 7 Tough night but chased everything and put himself about. On his own for alot of the game but ran his socks off. SUB - JAROSIK - 8 - Changed game with his running and passing - plenty of possession and won the all important freekick! SUB - MALONEY - 6 - Not one of Maloneys better nights, not involved enough and not as much a threat as should/can be. SUB - MILLER - 6 - Not on long enough to do much. |
