The Champions League group stage kicked off away to Old Trafford - fear and dread beforehand, but afterwards despair at what could have been. Yet another glorious away defeat in the Champions League. At least the Bhoys done us proud. JVoH scored a glorious opener and after two Saha strikes Nakamura levelled matters again just before half time. Little over a minute into the second half Solskjaer scored what was to be the winner.
I thought that the result on the whole was fair. That said Michels changed the game with penalty award. Our very inexperienced defence stood up to a magnificent attacking force, they will learn a lot from that. McManus was great I thought. MU could have scored a few more, but we coulda got another too. Hopefully this will give the team, and defence in particular some confidence going forward.
Boruc 9 - Superb
Wilson 7 - Was vg until he had to come off.
Naylor 7 - Apart from giving the ball away 30 yds out once had a good game, looks good to me.
McManus 8 - Thought he was superb, brave and a leader at the back.
Caldwell 7 - Some great blocks got him a 7 in my book, though he has huge problems concentrating for 90 mins, he is always liable to make a boob.
Lennon 7 - I don't know what people expect of Lennon, he controlled the game for much of the first half. Looked tired late on, but he is 35!
Gravesen 5 - Cost 2 goals. Worked hard rest of the game. Needs time to get to know team.
McGeady 5 - Looked overawed.
Nakamura 7 - See McGeady first half, 2nd half I thought he looked really good, he dropped into the middle more and was thus more effective.
Jarosik 6 - Some nice touches, but quiet on the whole.
JVOH 8 - Played a lonely role up front, scored a cracker and missed a sitter.
Subs (outta full 10)
Telfer 3 - Did everything but score for MU. Gave it away, 3 crazy back passes, some awful distribution.
Miller 6 - Didnt really get going.
Maloney 7 - Looked the part.
