Celtic today went back to the top of the SPL after a comfortable win over ICT.....at least thats the way this match report should have started but instead.....
.....Celtic could only manage to pick up a point today when they should have comfortably been walking away with three. The reason for this can only be down to a lacklustre attitude. In the first 45 minutes Celtic had a ridiculous share of the possession and looked like winning this at a canter. Instead they decided to stroll through the second half and were punished for their attitude. With Petrov and Magic picking up knocks during the week Gord decided to play a 4-5-1 formation with Jarosik being the man to play behind Miller. Pearson was also drafted into the team and showed that he could easily be a regular in this side if given the chance. In fact it was Pearson who got the Celtic goal when a long ball from Naka was controlled well by Miller and laid on a plate for the incoming Pearson. 1-0 after 23 minutes and nearly 70% of the possession. Surely it would only be a matter of time before Celtic finished Caley off? In fact it was about 40 minutes before ICT put together a move worth noting and Boruc pulled off a great save from a shot outside the box. This led to 5 more minutes of sustained ICT pressure before half-time. The second half saw Celtic start well with Pearson again being unlucky not to get on the end of another Miller cross. Jarosik also squandered a good chance and was subsequently hooked and replaced by Magic. McGeady was doing his best to work something out on the left and in the 72 minute he drove one just over the bar but clear cut chances were few and far between for a side that looked like they wanted to be elsewhere. And in the 80th minute they were duly punished. Munro put one past Marshall from the edge of the box after Celtic failed to clear. This finally saw Celtic try to up the tempo but it was too late - Miller was unlucky when he tried to connect with a cross and it was that man Pearson again who saw his effort just go the wrong side of the post in the 91st minute. Indeed but for Marshall coming off his line quickly in the dying seconds Celtic could have lost this game. This all means the Orcs are squatting on top of the league. If the opening games are anything to go by this years league will not be won at a canter - certainly not with the favourites all dropping points to unfancied opposition and taking points off each other. Boruc 6 Flapped at a corner but some good saves. Replaced by Marshall - don't know why. Wilson 7 Had the run of the pitch on the right hand side.
Caldwell 6 Some nice touches, good passing at times and looked comfortable until 80th minute.
McManus 6 See Caldwell.
Wallace 6 Always tries but this jus is not his position!
Lennon 6 Played well but should take some of the blame for not putting a rocket up a few erses during the game.
Pearson 8 Got the goal and could have had more. Looked strong on the ball.
Jarosik 6 Frustrating - looks like he can do so much more but disappoints at times.
Nakamura 7 Some wicked deliveries and tried getting things going.
McGeady 8 Took three guys to stop him at times - and he got out of those situations of several occasions.
Miller 7 100% commited, put himself about and very brave in the face of some crunching tackles - just needs the right service to get his goal but some great link-up play.
Magic - 6 On for Jarosik and had a few half chances
Marshall - 7 Saved Celtic's bacon today.
